Q

How do you solve simultaneous equations?

A

Get either the same amount of x on one side or the same amount of y on one side and then subtract/add them to together then simplify

Q

When plotting an inequality on a graph, how do you know which side satisfies the inequality and which doesn’t?

A

You test it by plotting a point and substitute it into the inequality, if it satisfies it then that side is the area. if it does not satisfy then you can shade that area out.

Q

How do you solve a quadratic inequality?

A

Solve it the quadratic on its own to find the potential values of x. then sketch a graph and plot the two points of x. then draw the semi circle to show the area that satisfies the inequality (x) then present in the formula -4

Q

How do know to plot the inequality graph like this U or like this n?

A

If the last number in the quadratic is positive it will be U because it goes from a positive down and back to the positive put of the graph. if it is negative it will be n because it has to go down to the negative bit.

Q

How do you estimate the value of a surd?

A

find the above and below whole number root e.g 11 and 12 (121 and 144). then use trail and error to find the closest decimal between that which will result in something near your desired surd.

Q

How do you simplify a surd?

A

1)express as a product of its prime factors
2) break down the products(still as a square root) into small chunks so that the same numbers go with each other (e.g. √ 2x2 x √ 3x3 x √ 4
3) simplify them so e.g (2 x 3 √ 4)
then (6√ 4)

How do you write quadratic equation in the completing the square formula?

A

x[2] + ax + b
(y + 1/2a) + b + 1/2a[2]

1) half a and put in brackets with y
2) add b
3) minus half a squared
4) simplify
