Q

focus

A

The point inside the crust where the pressure is released is called the focus The point on the Earth’s surface above the focus is called the epicentre.

Q

Temperature Inversion

A

16
Q

What kind of soil holds the most water

A

soils with the greatest surface area

17
Q

the larger the particle size… (porosity, permeability)

A

larger porosity and greater permeability

18
Q

what is soil feritility

A

ability for soil to sustain agricultural plant growth. Fertility requires a medium particle size.

19
Q

nitrogen

A

Helps with photosynthesis creating food for the plant. If deficient, leaves turn yellow.

20
Q

Phosphorus

A

Health of plants, energy through ATP. If deficient, it will stunt the growth

21
Q

Potassium (Potash)

A

Helps with movement of water, nutrients and carbohydrates in plant tissue. If deficient edges of leaf look burned.

22
Q

pH

A

best pH for most plants is 6.5. If it is too basic and the nutrients phosphorus, iron and manganese become unavailable. If the pH is between 3-5, the nutrients become more soluble and wash away.

23
Q

what to add to increase pH

A

limestone

24
Q

what to do to decrease pH

A

add compost, mulch with pine needles
