How do we know that Jesus's followers understood that He was God?

Thomas said, "My lord and my God!"
They were willing to die for his message, and some did

Jesus did not publicly announce that He was God at the beginning of His ministry because.....

He knew the Jews had no concept of God as 3-in-1, they would have immediately reject Him and His message

Why is it so very unlikely that Jesus would intentionally lie about being God?

He would die a painful, long death for lying

What's the problem with the argument that Jesus was a great moral teachers but not God?

The religious leaders wouldn't try to kill a great moral teacher or accuse him of blasphemy

Explain why hypnosis isn't a reasonable explanation for the miracles reported in the bible?

You can't hypnotize a large crowd, unwilling people, and sometimes Jesus didn't mention what he was doing (water to wine)

A miracle witness by a large crowd

Feeding the multitude

Miracle that was witnessed by skeptics

Raising Lazarus

Miracles that didn't involve direct communication with the person....

Water to wine

What is a biblical miracle

An extraordinary act of God that is intentional, purposeful, and benevolent

Does the bible speak of miracles not done by God?

Two examples of miracles not done by God?

Pharaohs magicians, fortune telling slave girl, the beast of revelation

How are miracles not done by God different from miracles done by God?

In every case, the God of the bible is denied and a false prophet is proclaimed. Their purposes are not benevolent but self serving, God responds with a demonstration of His power that proves His position of ultimate authority over these lesser powers

What is the power behind miracles not done by God?

What is the purpose of these "signs"

To deceive

What reasons do believe that Jesus actually performed miracles?

Eyewitness testimony, early documentation, and extra biblical writings

To show the messiah and give what he will do when he comes

The Greek word for messiah?

Louis Lapides came to faith in Jesus Christ by reading what?

The Old Testament

3 clear descriptions of Jesus found in Isaiah 53

He was despised and rejected by men, pierced for our transgressions, oppressed and afflicted yet He did not open His mouth, assigned a grave with the wicked

How long before Jesus's birth did Isaiah write?

What are the oldest biographies of Jesus?

The Gospels

Name 4 NT writers who were eye witnesses

Do the differences in details between the Gospel accounts provide support or against their truthfulness?

Support; if they were lying, they would make sure every detail was the same

What reason do we have to believe that these eyewitnesses weren't lying?

Lies got them criticism, persecution, and death

It is important to know that the NT was completed before the end of the 1st century (100AD) because....

There were still those living who could verify or debunk what the writers were recording about Jesus, and it couldn't develop into a myth

Summarize the creed recorded in 1 Corinthians 15:3-5

Christ died for our sins, rose from the dead in the third day, and then appeared to many

How many NT manuscripts still exist today?

What's so amazing about the 24,000 NT manuscripts still existing?

Affixation/ suffocation

As an eyewitness of Jesus's crucifixion, what did the apostle John testify to seeing which indicates that Jesus experienced heart failure?

Flow of blood and water from where the Roman soldiers pierced Jesus

If Jesus escaped the tom , what obstacles would he have to face? Would his disciples consider him the resurrected savior?

He would have to face guards, rolling the stone, and escape with dislocated soldiers.
The disciples would not recognize him since he was bloody and beaten

What was the response of Jewish leaders to the Christian claim that Jesus had been raised from the dead? What does this imply about the tomb?

They said the disciples stole the body, this implies that the tomb was empty

Why does the disputes stealing the body seem unlikely?

The disciples were depressed and scared, and it doesn't explain the sighting of Jesus

Why is the wrong tomb theory wrong?

The tomb was owned by a well known person (Joseph of Arimathia) and Mary had gone to the tomb before and knew where it was

Even if there was a natural explanation to the empty tomb, what two things still would be unexplained?

Disciples changed lives, 500+ sightings

Was it the empty tomb that convinced Jesus's followers that he was alive?

No, it was seeing Jesus

Explain three evidences with the JEW acronym

Jerusalem, location of the first church and tomb of Joseph of aramathea (idek how to spell it)
Enemy testimony, Jew reports of stolen body by disciples
Women's testimony, not acceptable to Jews, so if the disciples were making this up, why mention women we first witnesses?

What evidence for Jesus's resurrection was Paul reporting even before the gospels?

Eye witnesses that were still alive

At the time, was there anyway to verify Paul's words? How?

Witnesses were still alive and could verify their testimonies

What is the problem with the theory that's this is all just a legend?

There isn't enough time between Jesus's death and the writing of the NT core legends to come about

What's the problem with the idea that everyone just hallucinated?

Mass hallucinations of the same thing do not happen

Why can't the NT accounts be explained as wishful thinking?

Some disciples didn't believe Jesus resurrected until they saw Him

How is the apostles' willingness to go to death for their claim that Jesus was the risen Savior different from martyrs of other religions?

The apostles were tortured and if it was a lie they started, they would know it was a lie
