Appendix A Flashcards
(6 cards)
What partials are considered out of tune?
7th, 11th, 14th
What are sound waves?
Sound Waves are compression waves that are created by a physical vibration source and move through the air to a receiver
What is frequency?
Frequency is the number of times per second the cycle of the sound wave repeats and its corresponding unit of measurement is Hertz (Hz).
What is wavelength?
Wavelength is the physical distance covered by one complete cycle of a sound wave (see Figure A-1). We can calculate the wavelength of any sound wave by dividing the speed of sound by the frequency. The speed of sound can vary with temperature and pressure, but is roughly 344m/sec. at sea level and 60°F.

What is amplitude?
Amplitude reflects the energy in the sound wave.
