- viewed as the more basic UE pattern: more associated with self- care acts such as feeding, grooming, washing hair, brushing teeth, maje up, taking off glasses
- reaching up for an obecjt overhead (can also be D2)
- reaching over to the floor from a chair seated position
- holding toddler’s hand when he is walking
- using a leash to walk the dog
- pulling luggage in an airport
- threading needle or painting
- handshake
- drinking in a pub
- bowling

Viewed as the more advanced of the 2 UE patterns: associated with reaching out to others
- waving to a friend across the street
- upper body dressing (also can be D1)

- putting on a seatbelt (can also be D1)
- pulling clothes out of the dryer and hanging on hanger
- putting the dishes away from the dishwasher (can also be D1)
- holding the reins of a horse while riding
- hsaving legs in shower
- many sports: volleyball spike, tennis serve, baseball throw, swomming freestyle

- sideways walking such as walking between 2 tightly parked cars
- preparing food in gallery style kitchen
