Applied Statistics - 3.4 - Histograms Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
What is a Histogram?
A
Chart where area of the bar is proportional to the frequency in each class
2
Q
Area of bar, Frequency Density
Histogram Equations
A
- Area of bar = frequency density * class width
- Frequency density = frequency / class width
3
Q
How to form a frequency polygon from a Histogram?
A
Join the middle of the top of each bar in the histogram to form a frequency polygon
4
Q
Frequency polgygons - How to calculate mean
A
(Midpoint of group * (group width * frequency density)) / Number of objects
5
Q
What does Positively/Negatively skews mean?
A
- High peak at lower values of x
- High peak at high values of x
6
Q
How to compare data?
A
Comment on:
- Interquartile range (less range = more precise)
- Median
(On average has a higher/lower____)
-Outliers
-Positively/Negatively skewed
7
Q
Strong vs Weak correlation
A
- Strong correlation means values are close to line of best fit
- Weak correlation means values are not all close to line of best fit
