applying methods of modifying to criminal behaviour Flashcards

1
Q

biological explanation suggests ?

A

criminal behaviour is caused by physicological issues for example they would say its due to inherited genes or the MAOA gene or a result of damaged for dysfunctional amygdala or frontal lobe. thereofre this approach takes a nature perspective

Q

Q

social psych explanations suggests ?

Q

how biological explanations affect behaviour ?

A
  • MAOA gene is linked to low levels of serotonin and therefore could explain aggressive behaviour, low activity of this gene is seen in violent offenders. reduced functioning in our prefrontal cortext is linked to issues of controlling behaviour and regulating our emotions which can be linked to criminal behaviour

Q

induvidual differences effect our behaviour ?

A

faulty cognitive processing can cause offenders to blame external factors for their behaviour, rather than take accountability. it can also cause hostile attribution bias where we misinterpret someones behaviour as a threat. a neurotic personality leads to over reacting which could link to criminal behaviour

Q

social psych explanations how it affects our behaviour ?

Q

what method of modifying would be used for biological

A

anger management - can’t help modify pre frontal cortex or MAOA gene activity but can teach offender how to control and manage their anger as a result of these internal issues
