List 5 safety rules:
- No student shall use archery equipment without the direction of the P.E teacher.
- No arrow is to be nocked (placed) in the bow until the signal is given.
- Straddle the shooting line (bench) while shooting and step back when you are done. NEVER STEP IN FRONT OF THE LINE FOR ANY REASON.
- The student’s partner must stand behind their partner. Areas to the side and in front of the shooting lines are out of bounds.
- All archers shoot at the same time and retrieve at the same time. wait for a signal to begin shooting and retrieving arrows.
What is step 1?
STANCE
- Feet comfortably apart
- Left side to target
- Head only turns to target
What is step 2?
NOCKING ARROW:
- Arrow nocked perpendicular to string
- Cock feather away from bow
What is step 3?
DRAW
- Bow rests in heal of hand
- Left arm slightly bent
- Rotate elbow down and out
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd fingers on the string
- Use upper arm, shoulder and upper back muscles
- Elbow in direct line with arrow
What is step 4?
ANCHOR
- Right finger under jaw
- String touches tip of nose and center of chin
What is step 5?
AIM
- Hold for 2-3 seconds
- use right eye when aiming
- close left eye
What is step 6?
RELEASE
- Relax fingers of string hand
- Keep bow arm in same position
What is step 7?
FOLLOW THROUGH
- Remain in draw position until arrow hits
- Analyze your right hand and left arm are after the arrow hits the target
What is the objective of target activities
In target type games, players score by avoiding obstacles to get their objects closer to their opponents to the target. Target type games emphasize accuracy and control.
What is the offensive strategy?
Planing path to target.
What is the defensive strategy?
Blocking path of object using other objects.
What are the 3 common principles underlining tactical play in target games?
- AIM to target
- PLACEMENT in relation to target and other obstacles

On the side of the bow with the string what are the pieces? (TOP to BOTTOM)
nock, loop, string, serving, timber hitch
On the side of the bow WITHOUT the string what are the parts? (TOP to BOTTOM)
Nock, loop, upper limb, belly, back, arrow rest, grip, lower limb, timber hitch.
