- family - first form of association; lowest on the rung of values - established by nature for the supply of men’s everyday needs
- village - second form of association; generally more complex, aiming at something more than the supply of daily needs → primitive cultural needs
- polis - third and highest form of association; highest in the terms of social revolution, and highest in terms of values and purpose → exists for the sake of good life and not for the sake of life only
