- those who live according to man and will suffer eternal punishment with the devil (City of Man)

A
He thinks of the state as unnatural and leaves humankind to sin.

A
Relations between man and God lead to the right relations between man and man

How does St. Augustine view slavery?
A
Man was created in God’s image, to be a master of irrational creatures, beasts, but not fellow men. Slavery is not a result of man’s nature, but a result of sin. He, however, appeals to slaves to serve their masters heartily and with goodwill.
