What are integers?
All positive and negative whole numbers including 0.
What are whole numbers?
The numbers 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11… and so on.
What are digits?
The whole numbers between 0 and 9.
What is place value?
Each digit in a large whole number having a specific place which determines the value of the entire number.
What are the different place values?
Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands etc.
What is addition?
The process in which the value of one number is added to the value of another. The result is called the sum.
What is the result of addition called?
The sum.
What is subtraction?
The process in which the value of one number is taken from the value of another. The result is called the difference.
What is the result of subtraction called?
The difference.
What is multiplication?
The process of repeated addition. The result is called the product.
What is the result of multiplication called?
The product.
What is division?
The process of finding how many times one number (the divisor) is contained in another number (the dividend). The result is the quotient and any amount left over is called the remainder.
What is the result of division called?
The quotient and remainder.
In division, what goes on the top line, and what goes on the bottom line?
Top = Dividend
Bottom = Divisor
What is long division?
It involves the repeated division of the divisor into place holders of the dividend from left to right.
What is a multiple?
Any number that is exactly divisible by a given number. For example, 24 is a multiple of 2,3,4,6,8,12.
