Q

Origin of Brachial Artery

A

Lower border of teres major as a continuation of the axillary artery

21
Q

Termination of Brachial Artery

A

Ends opposite the neck of the radius

Divides into radial and ulnar terminal arteries

22
Q

A

The median nerve

23
Q

The brachial artery is medially related to

A

The basilic vein

24
Q

Branches of the brachial artery

A
  • profunda brachii artery
  • muscular branches
  • nutrient artery to the humerus
  • superior ulnar collateral artery
  • inferior ulnar collateral artery
  • radial and ulnar terminal branches
25
Contents of Posterior Compartment of the Arm
- triceps muscle - radial nerve - profunda brachii vessels - superior ulnar collateral vessels - posterior branch of inferior ulnar collateral
26
Origin of Triceps Muscle
- long head: infraglenoid tubercle - lateral head: back of the humerus above the spiral groove - medial head: back of the humerus below the spiral groove
27
Insertion of Triceps
Olecranon process of ulna
28
Nerve Supply of Triceps
Radial Nerve
29
Actions of Triceps
- main extensor of the arm - long head shares in stability of shoulder - long head helps in adduction
30
Median Nerve Origin
Medial root: C8, T1 Lateral root: C5 C6 C7 Unison if two roots
31
Course of the Median Nerve
- lateral to 3rd part of axillary artery and upper half of brachial artery - crosses in front of the brachial artery at the middle of the arm - descends medial to the artery down to the cubital fossa - enters the forearm by passing between 2 heads of pronator teres
32
Branches of the median nerve in arm
None
33
Origin of the Ulnar Nerve
C7, C8, T1 | Branch if medial cord of brachial plexus
34
Course of the Ulnar Nerve
- descends close to the medial side of the 3rd part of axillary artery and upper half of brachial artery - at the mid-humeral shaft, it pierces the medial intermuscular septum to reach the posterior compartment - descends down to the back of the medial epicondyle - enters the forearm by passing between the two heads of flexor carpi ulnaris muscle
35
Branches of Ulnar Nerve in arm
None
36
Origin of Radial Nerve
Posterior Cord of Brachial Plexus
37
Course of Radial Nerve
- descends posterior to the 3rd part of the axillary artery and brachial artery - in the spiral groove, it lies in the middle of the medial and lateral heads of the triceps - pierces the lateral intermuscular septum to reach the front of the arm - descends between brachialis and brachioradialis
38
Branches of the Radial Nerve in the Axilla
- muscular branches to long and medial heads of triceps | - posterior cutaneous nerve of the arm
39
Branches of the Radial Nerve in the Arm (Spiral Groove)
- muscular branches to the lateral and medial heads of triceps - muscular branch to the anconeus muscle - lower lateral cutaneous nerve of the arm - posterior cutaneous nerve of the forearm
40
Branches of the Radial Nerve in the groove between brachialis and brachioradialis
- muscular branch to brachialis - muscular branch to brachoradialis - muscular branch to extensor carpi radialis longus
