arrhythmias Flashcards
(9 cards)
polymorphic ventricular tachycardia
torsardes de points!
- can deteriorate into ventricular fibrillation
assoc with long QT
causes of long QT !
amiodarone
tricyclic antidepress
antipsychotics
cholorquine
erythromicin/azithromycin
hypo-calcaemia/kalaemia/magnesaemia
myocarditis
hypothermia
subarachnoid haemorrhage
management of torsade de points
IV magnesium sulphate
what drug should NOT be used in ventricular tachycardia
verapamill !!!
what comes first VT or VF
VT has the potential to precipitate VFib
types of VT
monomorphic = mostly caused by MI
polymorphic = torsades
management of SVT
vagal maneouvres
carotid sinus massage
IV adenosine, rapid bolus of 6mg
- if unsuccessful give 12mg
- if still unsuccess give further 18mg
DC cardioversion
management of SVT in asthmatics
cant give adenosine !!!
- give verapamil
prevention of SVT episodes
betablockers
radiofrequency ablation
- AV nodal reentry tachycardia
