  • Assess potassium - normal potassium level 3.5 – 5.0
  • Assess serum digoxin drug level, s/s digoxin toxicity
  • Apical Heart Rate for full 60 seconds prior to administration. Hold drug if less than 60 beats per minute.
  • Teach-s/s toxicity, how to check heart rate and to contact provider if less than 60.
    o Assess for drug interactions.

  • Assess chest pain before/after meds, for potential contraindications, BP after each dose,
  • Notify provider if you administer in a clinical setting.
  • Teach-never swallow only SL, sit down when they take it, call 911 after 1 dose, protect from light, serious interaction with erectile dysfunction meds (hypotension)
  • Hold if patient has taken erectile dysfunction meds- within last 24 hours.
