ASL-FAMILY-2 Flashcards
(40 cards)
BROTHER
This sign starts with either a modified “L” hand or “G” hand on the dominant hand and an “index finger” on the non-dominant hand. Then the dominant hand moves downward while changing into an “index” finger handshape at the end of the sign.
CHILD
The sign for child is done by doing two pats on the top of an imaginary child’s head.
You can do it with “one” pat, but could be mis-interpreted as “short.”
DAD
There are various ways to sign “dad” or “father” in ASL. A good general way to sign “dad” or “father” is by placing the tip of the thumb of your “5-hand” on or near your forehead.
DIVORCED / SEPARATE
initialized-version - The sign for “divorce” is made by first forming the letter “d” with both hands. Hold both hands together with the palms facing each other. With a twisting motion, move both hands outward and sideways so both palms face forward.
non-initialized version - Think of two objects or two people that were once together as now being apart
The sign for divorce is very similar to the sign for “separate” or “apart.” The sign for “separate” is made by touching both hands together at the knuckles. The hands should both be bent. Now, move the hands away from each other.
