What drugs are in the Non-specific ß agonist class?
Epinephrine, Ephedrine, Isoproterenol
What drugs are in the ß2 selective class?
Albuterol, Terbutaline, Metaproterenol, Pirbuterol, Levalbuterol
When are ß2 selective drugs indicated?
Acute bronchoconstriction and prophylaxis of exercise induces asthma
Which ß2 selective drug is given with SubQ injection in emergent situations?
Terbutaline
What drugs are in the LABA class?
Salmeterol, Formoterol
When are LABA drugs indicated?
To prevent night attacks
What drugs are in the ULABA class?
Indacaterol, Olodaterol
When are ULABA drugs indicated?
COPD
What are the SE’s of ß agonists?
Hypoxemia, cardiac arrhythmias
Tachyphylaxis
What are SE’s of the aerosolized versions of ß agonists?
Anxiety, muscle tremors, CV toxicity
What drugs are in the Methylxanthine class?
Theophylline, Caffeine
What is the MOA of Methylxanthine drugs?
Inhibit PDE –> increased cAMP –> SM relaxation –> bronchodilation
How do Methylxanthine drugs help with COPD?
Decrease fatigue on the diaphragm
What are the SE’s of Theophylline?
N/V, tremulousness, arrhythmias
What drugs does Theophylline interact with?
Erythromycin, Cimetidine, Fluoroquinolones
What are the SE’s of Caffeine?
Nervousness, tremor
Where is Caffeine commonly prescribed?
NICU
What drugs are in the anti-muscarinic class?
Atropine, Ipratropium, Tiotropium, Aclidinium
What is special about Ipratropium?
It doesn’t cross into circulation or cross the BBB and it is free of systemic atropine-like SE’s
What are Tiotropium and Aclidinium indicated for?
Maintenance therapy of COPD
What are the t1/2 of Triotropium and Aclidinium?
Triotropium = 24 hrs Aclidinium = 12 hrs
Which corticosteroid is systemic, given orally, and given in emergencies?
Prednisone
What are the SE’s of Prednisone?
Insomnia, behavioral changes, acute peptic ulcers
What are the ICS drugs?
Beclomethasone, Budesonide, Ciclesonide, Flunisolide, Fluticasone, Mometasone, Triamcinolone
