Asthma: Mild-Moderate - Treatment Priorities

Mild-Moderate: normal conscious state, some increased WOB, speaking in phrases/sentences, tachycardia

A
  • Salbutamol pMDI and spacer:
    • AD: 4-12 doses (4 breaths/dose)
    • PD >6y: 4-12 doses (4 breaths/dose)
    • PD 2-6y: 2-6 doses (4 breaths/dose)
      If no significant response @ 20/60, escalate to severe protocol.
  • Salbutamol nebulised: if spacer unavailable
    • AD: Salbutamol 10mg neb, repeat 5mg @ 5/60 if required
    • PD L Child 12-16y: Salbutamol 5mg neb, repeat @ 20/60 if required
    • PD M Child 5-11y: Salbutamol 2.5-5mg neb, diluted with n/saline to 5ml, repeat @ 20/60 if required
    • PD S Child 2-4y: Salbutamol 2.5mg neb, diluted with n/saline to 5ml, repeat @ 20/60 if required
      If no significant response @ 20/60, escalate to severe protocol.
