(19 cards)
What is the charge, location and relative atomic mass of a Proton?
Charge= +1
Location= Nucleus
Relative atomic mass= 1
What is the charge, location and relative atomic mass of a Neutron?
Charge= 0
Location= Nucleus
Relative atomic mass= 1
What is an Isotope?
Isotopes are atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons and different masses.
What is the charge, location and relative atomic mass of an Electron?
Charge= -1
Location= Shells
Relative atomic mass= 0.00055
What determines the chemistry of an atom?
The behaviour of its electrons.
How are the properties of isotopes different to atoms?
They have the same chemical reactions due to the same number of electrons. However, due to the difference in mass, there’s may be a slight variation in physical properties such as boiling point and density.
What is a Relative isotopic mass?
Relative isotopic mass is the mass of an atom of an isotope compared with one-twelfth of the mass of an atom of carbon-12.
What is Relative Atomic Mass?
Relative atomic mass is the weighted mean mass of an atom of an element compared with 1/12 mass of carbon-12.
How is relative atomic mass calculated?
Mass spectrometry.
Using the equation- RAM= ((mass÷charge) x Relative abundance)÷100.
How is relative molecular mass found?
Adding together the relative atomic masses of all the atoms in the molecular formula.
What is a Cation?
A positively charged ion.
What is an Anion?
A negatively charged ion.
What is the charge and formula of Nitrate?
NO₃⁻
What is the charge and formula of Carbonate?
CO₃²⁻
What is the charge and formula of Sulfate?
SO₄²⁻
What is the charge and formula of Hydroxide?
OH⁻
What is the charge and formula of Ammonium?
