ATP Flashcards
(5 cards)
1
Q
What is ATP?
A
Adenosine triphosphate. Immediate energy source used by cells for biological processes.
2
Q
Formation of ATP?
A
Ribose molecule, adenine molecule, 3 phosphate groups.
3
Q
How does ATP release energy?
A
ATP is continuously hydrolysed then resynthesised.
4
Q
What does ATP hydrolyse into?
A
Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and 1 inorganic phosphate group (Pi). Catalysed by enzyme ATP hydrolase. Energy is released.
ATP —ATP hydrolase—> ADP + Pi (+energy)
5
Q
How is ATP resynthesised?
A
Condensation of ADP and Pi, catalysed by enzyme ATP synthase during photosynthesis or respiration. Energy released from photosynthesis or respiration allows for the resynthesis.
ADP + Pi —ATP synthase—> ATP
