(4 cards)
1
Q
What is ATP used for?
A
- ATP is made from adenine, ribose and three phosphate groups
- Is formed by a condensation reaction and is catalysed by ATP synthase
2
Q
How is ATP formed?
A
- ATP is made from adenine, ribose and three phosphate groups
- Is formed by a condensation reaction and is catalysed by ATP synthase
3
Q
How is the hydrolysis of ATP used in cells?
A
- To provide energy for other reactions such as protein synthesis or active transport
- To add phosphate to other substances and make them more reactive
4
Q
What the properties of ATP?
A
- Releases relatively small amount of energy
- Releases energy instantaneously
- Phosphorylates other compounds, making them more reactive
- Can be rapidly re-synthesised
- Does not leave cells
