Q
Where do inorganic ions occur?
A
- In solution in the cytoplasm and body fluids of organisms
2
Q
Name the types of ions and their roles?
A
- Sodium → involved in the co-transport of glucose and amino acids across cell membranes
- Iron → is a component of haemoglobin which transports oxygen
- Hydrogen → is important in determining pH and thus affecting protein structure and enzyme activity
- Phosphate → is important as a structural component of DNA, RNA and ATP
