attachment Flashcards
(5 cards)
What is attachment?
A reciprocal emotional bond between a caregiver and an infant
What are 3 behaviours that display attachment?
1) Proximity - how close the infant stays to the caregiver
2) Separation distress - distress shown by the infant when the caregiver leaves
3) secure-base behaviour - the infant coming back to the caregiver while playing
What are caregiver-infant interactions?
Meaningful social interactions between babies and their caregivers which help develop attachment.
What are two types of caregiver-infant interactions?
1) reciprocity - when the behaviour from one partner (infant or caregiver) elicits a response from the other
2) interactional synchrony - when the infant mimics the behaviour of the caregiver
