Leave of Absence:
A requested extended absence from work for personal reasons such as continuing education, extended illnesses etc., for a period not to exceed 12-calendar months.
Shift employees/Non-Shift Employees who are going to arrive later than their scheduled start time are required to notify an on-duty supervisor as far in advance as possible, but no later than
Thirty (30) minutes prior to their scheduled start time.
Wellness Check: If any staff member has not reported to work as scheduled, the supervisor will attempt to make contact via telephone with the individual, as soon as possible after briefing
If they are unable to make contact within the first three (3) hours, they are to notify the Command Center who will reach out to the Sheriff’s Office for a wellness check. If the Sheriff’s Office cannot do a wellness check, we will send our staff to check on the individual to make sure he / she is okay.
Overtime Cancelation: Employees who agree to work pre-scheduled overtime and who, subsequently, are unable to work, will notify the supervisor they were assigned to work for at least
at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance by phone, otherwise the one half (1/2) occurrence will be assessed.
Doctor’s Notes: The supervisor may require employees to submit a doctor’s note to verify claims of illness. Upon the supervisor’s request the doctor’s note must be submitted within
seventy-two (72) hours. A doctor’s note will constitute an excused absence, unless the supervisor has information that casts doubt on the validity of the absence.
A six (6) consecutive month period that is free of occurrences will result in the adjustment of the employee’s attendance record
Going one (1) step back in the matrix with a corresponding reduction in the number of occurrences to the number indicated in the matrix for the new step.
Any twelve (12) month period free of corrective action
will result in a regression to the starting point of the “Absence / Lateness Matrix” with zero (0) occurrences and no corrective action.
Occurrences will be documented using
a 12-month rolling
calendar format such that occurrences that fall beyond the
preceding 12-month period will not be counted towards the
total number of accumulated occurrences.
Employees requesting a Leave of Absence for medical
reasons must
have exhausted or be ineligible for Family
Medical Leave prior to approval of a request
Any requests for Leave of Absence greater than ninety (90)
days will be reviewed and approved by
he Chief of
Corrections (or designee).
