What is an attitude?
A learned behavioural predisposition. We take our attitude around with us and apply them to situations
What is an attitude object?
The people, object or situation towards which an attitude is directed

What are the 3 components of the triadic model of attitudes?
Cognitive - knowledge and beliefs
Affective - feelings and emotions
Behavioural - intended behaviour
What are the 2 methods for changing attitudes?
Persuasive communication theory
Cognitive dissonance theory (festinger)
What is the persuasive communication theory?
The persuader
Significant other with high status
The message
Positive to initiate change
The recipients
Easy to change an attitude if the recipient really wishes to be changed

What is the cognitive dissonance theory?
Festinger proposed that if 2 components of attitude oppose then an individual will experience emotional discomfort known as dissonance
Then the likelihood of changing the attitude increases
What is a stereotype?
A belief held by a collection of people about traits shared by a certain category of person
