What are attitudes?
General outlooks, viewpoints, or feelings towards or about something such as an idea or issue
What are values?
The principles, ideals and notions considered important
- What is valuable to a person or group?
Provide an example of a connected attitude and value
The value of justice underpins the attitude that people should be held accountable for their wrongdoings.
What are personal attitudes?
The viewpoints or outlooks that are personal to us - can be shared by many others
What are personal values?
Those we consider important to our own lives and wellbeing - may differ from others/change over time due to contextual influences.
What is tone?
The mood or feeling conveyed by the voice of a text. It reflects the attitude of a text’s creator towards their subject matter.
How can a tone be described as positive?
Admiring, encouraging, lighthearted, optimistic, and sentimental
How can a tone be described as negative?
Accusatory, aggressive, cynical, dismissive, and pessimistic
How can a tone be described as neutral?
Ambivalent, bland, noncommittal, nostalgic and unconcerned
