Attribution
A perception of the reason for an outcome of an event / performance
The Locus of Causality
Is it in the control of the performer (internal) or out of their control (external). Internal Attribute - Within the performers control. External Attribute- Outside of the performers control
The Stability Dimension
Is it a permanent or changeable reason
Unstable Attribute
Can change in a short amount of time
Stable attribute
Won’t change in a short amount of time
Factors that affect Attribution
Refs decision, Your ability, Luck, Coaching you have received, Playing a good team, the effort applied, the amount of practice that occurred
Self serving bias
Using external and / or unstable reasons for losing
Using stable and internal reasons for winning
Learned helplessness
Using internal stable reasons for losing
Attribution retraining
Changing the reasons given for success and failure
How to overcome learned helplessness
Change stable internal reasons to unstable external reasons
