Autobiographical events and imagined futures Flashcards
(6 cards)
autobiographical events
personally lived experiences that involve an overlap between episodic and semantic memories
how do we retrieve and become conciously aware of autobiographical events
engage in mental time travel and retrieve episodic memories from the hippocampus and semantic memories from the frontal and temporal lobes
mental time travel
the ability to mentally travel through time, remebering thoughts and feelings from the recent or distant past which is unqiue to episodic memory
possible imagined dutures
hypothetical experiences and situations that an individual has the ability to create and conceptualise in their mind
how are semantic and episodic memories involved in constructing possible imagined futures
the brain regions that are involved in the retrieval of autobiographical experiences are also activated when people construct possible imagined futures, therefore to construct these people draw on elements of past experiences from their semantic and episodic memories
