What does sync (synchronise) mean
Means to match up and pull together
What is an example of something synchronising in IT?
For example making sure that multiple devices have the same copy of certain files in many places
What is bandwidth?
The available amount of data transmission capability
What does ISDN stand for?
Stands for integrated services digital network
What is intranet?
A local network where access is restricted to internal users.
What is extranet?
Is an intranet system that can be accessed by authorised external users.
What does CPU stand for?
Central Processing Unit
What does CPU do?
It acts as the computers brain to process information.
What does encrypting mean?
To convert data into a code to avoid it being easily accessed by unauthorised users
What is an email host?
Is an internet provider that offers an email service to its users
What is ping?
Is a test of end to end connectivity.
What is latency?
Is the ‘delay’ experienced, for example if a character in a video game turns the change made may take longer for the user to see
What is lossy compression?
Lossy means removing data which makes the file smaller
What is lossless compression?
It still reduces the size of the file but reduces the number of bits rather than taking out relevant data.
What if a bit (binary digit)?
Is the smallest component of data which is represented by a 0 or 1
