B17 Flashcards
(9 cards)
why are plants producers
the glucose from photosyntheisis is synthesised into other compounds and this adds to biomass
what are producers eaten by
primary consumers
what are primary consumers eaten by
secondary consumers and these can be eaten by tertiary consumers
why do primary consumers have to eat a lot of plant material
as cellulose is difficult to digest so they need a lot of nutrients and plants stay in one place
what are decomposers
bacteria and fungi and they break down waste material or dead organisms
draw out the carbon cycle
what is the water cycle
water evaporates from water bodies
when the water vapour rises it cools and condenses
it then falls as rain
water moves from one place to another and eventually ends back in water bodies
what are the factors affecting rate of decay by decomposers
temperature - enzymes controlling decay may become denatured
moisture - microorganisms grow faster in moist conditions
oxygen
what is compost used as
compost produced by the decay of waste organic material is used as natural fertiliser
