Q

How can pollution occur?

A

It is due to waste and chemical materials being improperly handled. It occurs on land and in water from sewage and fertilisers. It reduces biodiversity.

Q

How is acid rain caused?

A

When fossil fuels are burnt, acid gases are formed. This is due to sulphur impurities, which lead to sulphur dioxide being released which dissolves in rain water and causes acid rain.

Q

How is biomass lost?

A

Due to not all the ingested material being absorbed, some lost as waste products like carbon dioxide and water in respiration, urea in urine and feaces.

Q

How can food production be made more efficient?

Q

How can we maintain the oceans?

A

We need to keep fish stocks at a level where breeding continues. This is done by control of net size, quotas and modern biotechnology.

Q

What does fusarium fo?

A

It is a fungus which produces mycoprotein which is good for vegetarians. It is grown on glucose syrup in aerobic conditions and the biomass is harvested and purified.
