A

Valves have to withstand a lot of pressure - over time they may start to leak or become stiff and not open fully - causing people to become breathless and eventually die

What can be done to treat leaky valves?

A

Mechanical valves can replace faulty valves and they are made up of titanium and polymers - last a very long time

Biological valves based on animals or human donors can replace faulty valves - work extremely well and the patient doesn’t need any medication
