Non communicable Disease
Non - communicable diseases that cannot be spread between people
.they usually develop over a long period of time
E.g : cancer, Heart disease and Type 2 diabetes
Cardiovascular Disease (Heart & Blood Vessels)
.cause by fat building up in arteries
.can lead to heart attacks and strokes
Treatments :
Lifestyle Changes : Diet,exercise mo smoking
Medication: stains (lower cholesterol), blood thinners
Cancer
.caused by uncontrolled cell growth and division
.forms a lump called a tumour
Malignant = cancerous, can spread to other parts of the body.
Risk factors:
Smoking - linked to lung,mouth and throat cancers
Alcohol - linked to liver and other cancer’s
Obesity - Increases risk of many cancers
Other Non - Communicable Diseases
Type 2 diabetes
.caused by body not responding to insulin properly
.linked to obesity, poor diet
Liver disease :
.often caused by too much alcohol over time.
.can scar the liver (cirrhosis)
Risk factors and Lifestyle
.Risk Factor = something that increases chance of getting a disease
Risk factors can be :
.lifestyle - related (smoking, drinking)
Genetic ( inherited)
Impact of Non Communicable Diseases
Human - poor quality of life ,pain,disability shortened life
Financial Cost To NHS ,time off work , cost income
Global - High rates in developed & developing countries
Non communicable diseases that cannot spread
Tumour - Lump formed by abnormal cell growth
Benign - Non - cancerous Tumour
Malignant - Cancerous Tumour that can spread
Risk Factor - something That increases disease risk
Cardiovascular Disease - Disease of the heart and blood vessels.
