Why do we need BA Control?
To ensure Safe operations

What should you consider when siting an Entry Control Point?
Size of risk area
Location of the access points to the risk
Number of levels or floors involved
Wind direction
Physical limitations of the site
Likely development of the incident
Near to the scene of operations considering safety
In safe air without a need to relocate
Easily located by all BA wearers
What colour is the BAECO tabard?
Yellow and black chequered
When is Rapid Deployment used?
Exceptional circustances only
Immediate risk to life
Limited resources
Maximum of 2 BA wearers
Prevent significant escalation
What are the duties of BA wearers under rapid deployment?
Enter details on the tally
Check each others tallies, ensuring accurate gauge check
Place tallies into the automated rapid deployment slots in BAECB
Ensure rapid deployment clock is initiated
What is the ECOs responsibility in the rapid deployment to stage I phase?
Calculate the ‘time in’ - round up the digital clock, round down the analogue clock
Calculate the ‘time of whistle’
What are the requirements for a Stage I fire?
Small, unprotracted incidents
No more than one ECP
Maximum of 6 wearers
What are the duties of an ECO in stage I?
Must be qualified BA wearer
Don the yellow chequered BA entry Control Tabard
Take up the position sited/nominated by IC
Provide an ECB complete
Indicate on ECB Stage I in operation
Receive tallies from BA wearers and amend details if necessary
Enter ‘time in’ on each tally
Place tallies in the board and bracket the teams
Confirm the brief prior to entry
Indicate the location of the team
Comms check
Calculate ‘time of whistle’ for each wearer
Inform IC of prolonged communication breakdown
Keep IC informed
Return tally to BA wearer on exit
What are the requirements of a stage II fire?
Large protracted incident
More than 6 BA wearers
More than 1 ECP
Emergency teams

What are the requirements of an emergency team?
Must be equal to the largest BA team on the ECB
Must be present at each ECB
Standing close to ECB to receive updates
Own board & operator
Same equipment as BA team
Own water supply
Why would a single BA wearer be deployed?
Operations arent inside a building or structure
Low risk activities
BA wearer can be removed quickly from the risk area
BA wearer can always been seen by IC or other nominated crew
What are the requirements of a Stage II ECO?
Entry Control Point Supervisor (min CM)
Stage II on ECB
Check Time of Whistle calculations
Relief teams available
Liaise with other ECPs
Synchronise clock with first board
Attach BA main and branch guideline tallies, annotate board accordingly
Have a fully equipped emergency team rigged and standing at each ECP whilst it is in operation
