Questions Flashcards
Fire development curve - what are the stages?
Incipient
Growth
Flashover
Fully developed
Decay
What steps can a BA wearer take when they find they are entangled?
Stop
Step back
Crouch down
What is the criteria of a BA wearer for reentry?
Clearly defined specific task
Fit and well
160 bar
What is pyrolysis?
The chemical decomposition of a substance due to the application of heat. Heat causes vapours.
4 components of the tetrahedron?
Heat
Fuel
Oxygen
Chemical chain reaction
State 5 duties of BA wearer before entry
Fill out tally
240 Bar minimum
Buddy checks
Understand task and brief

Breathe down
How do you calculate turn around pressure?
Half, plus 40
what are the rapid deployment requirements?
Immediate risk to life
Prevent escalation
Limited resources
Max 2 BA wearers
How many main guidelines can be used from an ECP?
2
How many branch guidelines can come from an ECP?
4
What do you do once you have found a casualty?
Gauge check
360 around casualty
Radio entry control
What are the conditions of stage 1?
BA operations and limited and not complex
No more than 6 BA
Protracted incident
What are the conditions for stage 2?
Guidelines
More than 6 wearers
More than one ECP
Complex operation
Definition of the full duration of a BA wear?
Respiratory protection from the moment the cylinder valve is opened until the cylinder is exhausted
Define the working duration of a BA wear?
From when the valve is opened until the whistle
Methods of fire spread?
Convection
Conduction
Radiation
5 indicatiors of a flashover
Lowering neutral plane
Rapid increase in temperature
Remote pyrolysis
Flames in gas layer
Indicators of a backdraught
Underventilated fire
Blackened windows
Pulsing smokes
Ghosting tongues of flames
Sucking in air when door opened
Flashover definition
During a ventilated fire all combustible materials within compartment have pyrolysed, reaching their thermal radiation capacity which causes a sudden transition from an incipient fire to a fully developed fire.
Backdraught definition
In a fire compartment with limited ventilation can lead to incomplete combustions. Lots of unburnt product of combustion. This will cause temperature to increase.
When air is introduced you can get a sudden deflagration.
What is a flashpoint
Lowest temp that it can ignite but not sustain
Auto gas ignition definition
When the hot gases
Blaynor - fire gas ignition
BLAYNOR - auto gas ignition
3 Hs
Heat
