A
Most powerful and wealthy group of people in country.

- If king angered barons they could rebel.
- They had their own castles and armies.

A
- John raised taxes to fund wars in France which angered barons.
- John was cruel in his punishment of those who displeased him. This made the barons hate and fear John.

A
The barons forced John to sign the Magna Carta, limiting royal power and guaranteeing barons certain rights.
