What is the input nuclei
caudate nucleus (eye mmt control & cognition) and putamen (control of limb, trunk mmt)
Input (striatum) oes to output nuclei
and then to thalamus and brainstem where it produces mmot in frontal lobe- direct path
Superior colliculus
– controls saccadic eye
movements
What is intrinsic nuclei?
Globus pallidus (external)
Subthalamic nuclei
*Substantia nigra (pars compacta)
*Ventral tegmental area
Describe the limbic loop
Amygdala/hippoc./cingulate/temp/frontalorbital –> ventral striatum –> ventral pallidum –> thalamus –> cingulate & front orbital cortex
Describe the prefrontal cortex loop
Frontal –> anterior caudate –> globus pallidus (int)/SN (retic) –> thalamus
Describe the oculomotor loop
Post parietal –> caudate –> globus pallidus (int)/SN (retic) –> thalamus
