Q

When is an example of negative reinforcement in relationships?

A

help avoid feeling lonely. We may also feel punished by not being in a relationship e.g. receiving nasty comments from others, excluded from events where couples are invited. This will result in us wanting to decrease this type of behaviour and therefore make us more likely to wat to form a relationship with someone.

Q

How is classical conditioning used in the formation of relationships?

A

We also tend to form relationships with people who we associate with a pleasant experience. For example if we meet someone when we are in a happy mood (positive mood) we are much more inclined to like them than if we meet someone when we are feeling miserable (negative mood).
