Goals of Archaeology: To reconstruct past ways of life

Almost like an ethnography on material remains, as there are no informants to help you.

-The archaeologist sets out to reconstruct every aspect of life, from social structure to diet.

-The archaeologist looks into a culture as it existed at a defined moment of time in the past

Goals of Archaeology: Reconstruct the changes in a culture over time and explain both how and why this change occured

Concerned with the way in which culture has developed and evolved through time.

Goals of Archaeology: Find out why societies change and what drives that change

Most importantly, are there any universals when it comes to human societies?
Do things universally happen the same ways?
Are there trends towards certain social and political structures, agriculture methods?
