- the psalms are songs used in worship
-emphasise values such as complete committment to God
-reflect an emotional, personal relationship with God
teaching points christians to the life of Jesus
-not simply good moral action that saves you but faith in Jesus which inspires behaviour that is driven by love and commitment to him
-psalms emphasise how god is central to christian living and how the christian life should have love for God as the focus of all choices
-demosntrate the act of prayer and worship thanking God for his guidance
