Big Data Flashcards
(9 cards)
Big Data
Data that doesn’t fit the usual containers
Big Data - Volume
There is too much data for it all to fit on a conventional hard drive or server. Has to be stored on multiple servers
Big Data - Velocity
Data on the servers is created and modified rapidly. Servers must respond to frequently changing data within a matter of milliseconds
Big Data - Variety
The data held on the servers consists of many different types of data
Big Data - Most challenging attribute
Lack of structure - Unstructured nature makes it difficult to analyse the data
Examples of Big Data
Continuously monitored banking interactions and data from surveillance systems
Big Data - Solution to problem of processing data over multiple machines
Functional Programming - Their programs are stateless (no side effects) and make use of immutable data structures (when created, state cannot be modified).
Big Data - Fact-based Model
Each individual piece of information is stored as a fact so they are immutable and cannot be overwritten
Big Data - Graph Schema
Uses graphs with nodes and edges to represent the structure of a dataset
