What does the lysosome do
Help with digestion
What does the vacuole do
Stores food water and waste
What does the ribosomes and endoplasmic reticulum do?
Ribosomes make proteins and the ER transports it
Centrioles
Help with cell division found in animals only
Cell theory
All cells come from pre existing cells
All living things are made up of cells
Cells are the basic unit of life
Prophase
The first stage of mitosis
The nuclear membrane dissolves and chromosomes become visible
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
Anaphase
Chromosomes separate and move to opposite ends of the cell
Telophase
Nuclear membrane reappears chromosomes go to the cell pole
benign VS malignant tumour
A benign tumour doesn’t star t of cancerous
A malignant tumour starts off cancerous
What is cancer
When cells uncontrollably divide
Stem cells
An undifferentiated cell that can divide to form specialized cells
What are the two types of stem cells
Embryonic and adult stem cells
Accessory organs purpose
Liver: produces bile
Pancreases: produces insulin
Gallbladder: stores bile
What’s blood made up of (%)
50% plasma and red blood cells
1% platelets and white blood cells
What do Artories do
Carry blood away from the heart
What do veins do?
Carry blood back to the heart
What side of the heart is oxygenated and which side of the heart is deoxygenated
Right side: deoxygenated
Left side: oxygenated
What does plasma do?
Helps with blood clotting
What does white blood cells do?
Fight off bacteria and sicknesses
What are epithelial cells
Cells that line the trachea and bronchi. They are covered in cilia
What I’d alveoli
Air sacs in the lungs, site of gas exchange between air and blood
Photosynthesis word equation
6CO2 + 6O2 + H2O + light energy —> 6O2 +C6 H12 O6
What are sympathetic nerves
They get a person ready for flight or fight
