Bio Exam 3 Flashcards
Name the 3 types phagocytic cells of the innate immune system
Macrophages, Neutrophils, and Dendritic Cells
These phagocytic cells are the first cell line of defense and are found in connective tissue that underlie epithelial tissue throughout the body. (Big Eaters).
macrophages
These phagocytic cells travel to the nearest lymphatic organ to activate adaptive immunity by presenting antigen to the T cells.
dendritic cells
These phagocytic cells only eat a few bacteria before they die but they are more numerous in the blood than any other WBC.They form Pus.
neutrophils
This fluid is derived from tissue fluid and is carried in lymphatic vessels.
lymph
Plasma proteins of innate immunity that can punch holes in bacteria, which kills them, when water rushes in and they explode are called
complement
These proteins of innate immunity are released by virus-infected cells to warn your healthy cells that a virus is near.
interferons
A process of programmed cell death as seen in plasma cells, helper T cells and cytotoxic T cells to control the cell number is called
apoptosis
Adaptive immune cells that mature in the thymus are called
T cells
Adaptive immune cells that are born and mature in the bone marrow.
B cells
immune cells that form memory cells are
B and T cells
these cells become antibody- producing factories
plasma cells
These adaptive immune cells are the Generals in controlling the immune response.
helper T cells
These adaptive immune cells can kill virus-infected cells with perforins and granzymes.
cytotoxic T cells
These cells are infected by HIV-that is how we realized their importance.
