75% (7 cards)
1
Q
Photosynthesis formula
A
6CO2 + 6H2O - (chlorophyll + sunlight)> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Carbon Dioxide + Water –> Glucose + Oxygen + Water
2
Q
Light - Dependent Stage
A
Occurs at the thylakoid membrane/thylakoid/grana
Inputs = H2O, NADP+, ADP + P
Outputs = O2, NADPH, ATP
3
Q
Light Independent Stage
A
Occurs in the stroma
Inputs = CO2, NADPH, ATP
Outputs = Glucose (C6H12O6), H2O , NADP+, ADP + Pi
4
Q
Rubisco
A
- Catalyst in the first step of photosynthesis
- Binds Carbon Dioxide and attaches it to a sugar molecule
5
Q
C3 Plants
A
- No adaptations to limit
photorespiration - Carbon dioxide is fixed directly from
the air. - C3 plants are at a disadvantage when
the weather is hot and dry as Rubisco
will be picking up more oxygen.
6
Q
C4 Plants
A
- Carbon is fixed in the mesophyll and
The Calvin cycle is completed in a
different cell (bundle sheath). - The initial carbon fixation and the rest
of the light-independent reaction are
separated over space. - Mesophyll cells constantly pump CO2
into the bundle sheath cells keeping
the concentration high and lowering
the chance Rubisco will pick up O2
instead. But this costs additional ATP. - C4 plants can maintain high rates of
photosynthesis and low rates of
photorespiration at high
temperatures.
