Bioenergetics Flashcards
(29 cards)
Autotroph
Making your own food
Heterotroph
Intake food from outside
Aerobic
Requires air
Anaerobic
Does not require air
Chlolophyll
Pigment that absorbs light
Fermentation
The process in which cells make ATP without air
Photosynthesis
Plant cells turning carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen using light dependent reactions and the Calvin Cycle.
Cellular Resperation
Cells turning glucose and oxygen into carbon dioxide, water, and 30-38 ATP
ATP
Cell energy
What is the equation for Photosynthesis?
6 carbon dioxide + 6 water > glucose (C_6 H_12 O_6) + 6 oxygen
In what type of cell and where in the cell does photosynthesis take place
Plant cell in the chloroplast
Light dependent reactions
Intakes water, produces oxygen, uses hydrogen and electron charge to produce ATP and NADPH
Calvin Cycle
Uses Fixation, reduction, and regeneration to take in carbon dioxide and produce glucose while emitting ADP + P and NADP+
What takes place during Fixation
3 RuBp + 3 carbon dioxide > 6 3-phosphoglycerate
What takes place during reduction?
6 3-phosphoglycerate + 6 ATP + 6 NADPH > 6 G3P (1 of which goes to glucose yield) + 6 ADP+P + NADP+
What takes place durning Regeneration
5 G3P + 3 ATP > 3 RuBp + 3 ADP+P
State the equation of cellular respiration
glucose (C_6 H_12 O_6) + 6 oxygen > ^ Carbon Dioxide + 6 Water + 30-38 ATP
What types of cells use celular respiration?
All Eukaryotes
Is Glycolysis Aerobic?
No
Is The Kreb’s Cycle Aerobic?
Yes
Is the Electron Transport Chain Aerobic?
Yes
What are the 3 steps of Cellular Resperation
Glycolysis, Krebs Cycle, Electron Transport Chain
What takes place in Glycolysis
2 ATP are used to split a glucose into 2 Pruvate, producing 4 ATP for a net gain of 2 ATP, also produces 4 NADH out of NAD+
What is the mini step between Glycolysis and the Krebs Cycle
Pyruvate is made into Acetyl CoA, losing a carbon atom and producing another NADH
