biology 1 {b1} microscopes Flashcards
microscopes (20 cards)
“looked through to see the image, it also magnifies the image” what part of the microscope is the description about
eye piece lens
“supports the slide” what part of the microscope is the description about
stage
“move the stage up and down to bring the image into focus” what part of the microscope is the description about
focusing knobs
“magnify the image usually there are 3 different _________ _____ to chose from” what part of the microscope is the description about
objective lenses
“holds the slide in place” what part of the microscope is the description about
clip
“shines light through the slide so the image can be seen more easily” what part of the microscope is the description about
lamp
what are the names of the 2 focusing knobs
coarse adjustment knob and fine adjustment knob
what is step 1 of preparing your specimen
words to use: thin slice
take a thin slice of your specimen
what is step 2 of preparing your specimen
words to use: slide/pipette
take a clean slide and use a pipette to put one drop of water in the middle of it
what is step 3 of preparing your specimen
words to use: tweezers
then use tweezers to place your specimen on the slide
what is step 4 of preparing your specimen
words to use: colourless/stain/
if your specimen is colourless you might add a drop of stain to make your specimen easier to see
what is step 5 of preparing your specimen
words to use: cover slip/ mouthed needle
carefully lower a cover slip onto the slide using a mouthed needle and try not to trap any bubbles under the cover slip
what is step 1 of viewing your specimen
words to use: clip/stage
clip the slide to the stage
what is step 2 of viewing your specimen
words to use: objective lens
select the objective lens with the lowest power/ magnification
what is step 3 of viewing your specimen
words to use: coarse adjustment knob
use the coarse adjustment knob to move the stage up to just underneath the objective lens
what is step 4 of viewing your specimen
words to use: eyepiece
look down the eye piece then move the stage down until the specimen is nearly in focus
what is step 5 of viewing your specimen
words to use: fin adjustment knob
move the fine adjustment knob until you get a clear image
what is step 6 of viewing your specimen
if you what to make the image bigger use an objective lens with a high power and refocus
what is step 7 of viewing your specimen
once your happy with what you can see you can make a scientific drawing of your specimen
what is the equation to find the magnification
magnification = image size /actual size
