Biology Chapter 1 Flashcards
What does carbohydrates do?
Provide energy
What does lipids do?
They provide energy
What does protein do?
Used for growth and repair
What does vitamins do?
Keep you healthy
What does minerals do?
Keep you healthy
What does water do?
Keeps water in cells as we get rid of them from sweat, using toilet and exhale so water is vital.
What does fibre do
It gives you the extra bulk to keep moving and not to get stuck and also prevents constipation.
What is the digestive system
The digestive system is a system where food contains large molecule which get broken down by smaller molecules to mover around the body via the bloodstream.
How does food pass out the body
The small molecules after being digested by enzymes move in the bloodstream towards the small intestine where it approaches the villi in order to be absorb quick enough to be fully digested.
Why is bacteria important?
Bacteria is important as they live on fibre and make vitamin K. These vitamins are then absorbed into the body.
What does enzymes do?
Enzymes chop down your food and make larger molecules into smaller molecules.
What type of enzyme is a carbohydrase.
It break down carbohydrates into sugar molecules.
What type of enzyme is protease?
It breaks down protein into acids (amino acids)
What type of enzyme is lipase?
It is an enzyme that breaks down lipids into fat acids and glycerol.
How many type of enzymes are there?
There are 3
