focuses on chaining the physical or biological aspects of disease and illness. Practised by doctors and/pr health professionals associated with the diagnosis cure and treatment of a disease

A
- enables many common conditions, illnesses and injuries to be quickly and effectively treated ( flu -> medications/ antivirals)
- focus on cure, provides quick solutions for acute and chronic conditions
- led to major medical advancements (e.g. antibiotics, vaccines, MRI scans)

Disadvantages
A
- relies on health professionals and technology which can be costly. smaller rural - based health clinics may not have access to these resources.
- bandaid approach –> focuses on fixing issue rather than preventing them
- high costs, expensive to implement due to reliance on medical professionals and advanced technologies
