What is Basic Patrol?
Officers are responsible for patrolling a defined beat, zone, or district
What is Directed Patrol?
Focused resources on places, people and times where an increased risk of crime has been identified
What is Specialized Patrol?
Both uniformed and plain clothed officers used for surveillance or supporting other department personnel with specific investigations and events
What is the Boston Police Mission Statement?
The Boston Police Department is dedicated to working in partnership with the community to fight crime reduce fear and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Our mission is community policing.
What are the three styles of policing?
Watchman: the ultimate intent is to maintain order rather than to regulate behavior, ignoring minor offenses and tolerating minor misbehavior is standard.
Legalistic: strict adherence to the law is emphasized. Officers are expected to exercise little disc discretion and follow letter of the law.
Service: takes all calls seriously, and usually doesn’t impose formal sanctions officer will intervene, but does so in an informal manner.
