What are the three styles of policing?

A

Watchman: the ultimate intent is to maintain order rather than to regulate behavior, ignoring minor offenses and tolerating minor misbehavior is standard.

Legalistic: strict adherence to the law is emphasized. Officers are expected to exercise little disc discretion and follow letter of the law.

Service: takes all calls seriously, and usually doesn’t impose formal sanctions officer will intervene, but does so in an informal manner.
