Block VII Flashcards
(24 cards)
What is the ECS
Environmental Control System
Provides aircrew comfort and avionics cooling
What is the Oxygen mask used for
Provide breathing gas upon demand
What is the CRU-103/p
Chest mounted Oxygen Regulator that provides on demand oxygen flow to the aircrew
What is the LPU-36/p
Life Preserver authorized for use only with A/C equipped with ejection seat system
What is a Anti-Gravity suit (anti-g)
Bladder system encased in flire resistant cloth. As G-forces increase the bladders automatically inflate to restrict the downward flow of blood and lessening the effects of Black out
What are the objectives of the Egress System check out certification
To familiarize personnel working in and around the cockpit with ejection system and special hazards associated with those systems. Must be done every 6 months or after 90 days TAD
What is Hypoxia
Decrease in the amount of oxygen; can cause the eyes and body to fail
What is Anoxia
Death due to complete lack of oxygen
What are the 2 types of Aviator’s Breathing Oxygen (ABO)
Type I- Gaseous MIL-0-272710D
Type II- Liquid
What is the DBFSS
Dry Bay Fire Suppression System
Suppresses fire events caused by ballistic damage-
14 optical fire detectors, 6 dry bay extinguishers and a fire suppression control alarm
What is the PHSRU
Parachute Harness Sensing Release Unit- Sea water activated
What type of helmet do aircrew use
A/A24A-56- Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS)
What is the purpose of the Helmet Mounted Display Unit (HDU)
Allow Symbology to be projected onto the visor
What is a SJU-17A
Ejection seat- a variant of the Navy Common Ejection Seat (NACES)
Explain Normal Operation of the Canopy
Opened and closed by electrical means, manual controls provide a back-up when power is unavailible
Explain Emergency Operation of the Canopy
A unlatch thruster provides emergency jettison of the canopy when driven by pyrotechnic components of the ejection seat
What is the Fire Detection System
System that monitors the AMAD, APU, and Engine bays for fires or overheat conditions
What is the Fire Extinguishing System
A single fire extinguisher tank with 3 distrubution lines- 1 for the APU and 1 each for the Engine/AMAD bays. The system is a 1 shot, 1 bay system
What is the Bleed Air System
The system that supplies hot, high pressure engine bleed air for the ECS, OBOGS, and external fuel tank pressurization
What is the Anti-G system
A system of tubing and a valve that delivers regulated air pressure to the pilots Anti-G suit
Explain the Air Cycle Air Conditioning System
Cools and conditions engine bleed air for use in ECS, and other systems
What is OBOGS
On-board Oxygen Generation System- Distributes oxygen to the crew station. Nitrogen and other contaminations are removed from engine bleed air leaving a oxygen rich breahing gas mixture
Explain the Ejection Seat
Operated by ballistic gas pressure-
Each seat initiator contains 2 cartridges (L&R) The right starts canopy jettison sequence, fires the seat electronic sequencer, activates seat restraints, and fires seat catapult after a delay. The left is a back up
What is the Emergency Oxygen System
Located in the seat pan it is a 100 cubic inch emergency oxygen cylinder, automatically activated during ejection by a lanyard connected to the cockpit floor
