Blood vessels Flashcards
(15 cards)
What are the tunic layers of the blood vessels
Tunica Interna > tunica media > tunica externa made from fibrous connnective tissue
What are the elastic arteries in the systemic circuit
Aorta, Right brachiocephalic artery, Left common carotid artery, and left Subclavian artery
How is the pathway of blood vessels different on the right side from the left side of the upper body
There is only a brachiocephalic artery on the right side and not on the left side
What are two differences between the structures of veins and arteries
Veins have valves and larger lumens and less smooth muscle and elastic fibers than arteries
What artery off of the subclavian enters into the thoracic body cavity
Internal thoracic artery
What vein merges with the subclavian to form the brachiocephalic vein
Internal jugular vein
What are the three arteries that branch off of the external carotid artery
Superior thyroid, lingual and facial arteries
What are resistance blood vessels
Arterioles
What are capacitance blood vessels
Veins
What are exchange blood vessels
Capillaries
What type of blood vessel has relatively more smooth muscle
muscular artery / distributing blood vessel
What type of blood vessels are elastic arteries
Conducting blood vessels
What are the superficial veins of the upper body
Cephalic, median cubital , and basilic
What vein do the longest upper body superficial veins merge with as blood is returning to the heart
Both the cephalic and basilic superficial veins with the axillary vein
What artery provides 80% of blood to the brain
Internal carotid artery
